If you create an account with sched.org, you will be able to favorite sessions and create your own personal schedule for The Steampunk World’s Fair! The attendee directory for this event has been disabled - your information will be kept private.
Travel back (or forward) to another World’s Fair, the 1876 Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia, and its building devoted to women’s work, the Women’s Pavilion. There at least 50 daring Victorian ladies displayed amazing inventions including signal flares for the military, an umbrella for horses, a new-fangled dishwasher, a butter sculpture, the first baby bouncing chair, and comfortable corsets. As interesting as the inventions themselves were the sensational women who created them: ladies and loners, loose women and religious one, suffragists and spiritualists. Come be inspired by the lady inventors of the Women’s Pavilion of 1876. Also includes an update on the adventures of the Pavilion’s lady steam engineer, Emma Allison.
Presented by Dr. K, an anthropologist at the University of Pennsylvania who studies American popular culture, movies, comic books, and Steampunk. She is currently writing a graphic novel about the Women's Pavilion at the 1876 Centennial Exhibition.
